Indications
Scabex 5% is an antiparasitic medication indicated for the treatment of:
Scabies(infestation and irritation of the skin by tiny mites and their eggs).
Pediculosis pubis(pubic lice).
It can also be used for Pediculosis capitis(head lice).
Mode of Action
Permethrin, a pyrethroid pediculocide and scabicide, works by killing the tiny insects (mites/lice) and their eggs.4 It causes paralysis and death of the pest by inhibiting sodium ion influx through nerve cell membrane channels.5
Dosage & Administration (Topical Cream/Lotion)

General Use: For external use only. Skin should be clean, dry, and cool before application. Wash hands after applying (unless hands are the affected area).
Side Effects
Common and usually mild side effects include:
Mild and transient burning and stinging (up to 10%).
Pruritus (itching, up to 7%).
Other reported effects: Erythema, tingling, numbness, rash.
Precautions & Warnings
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes(nose, mouth). If contact occurs, rinse immediately with water.
Cross-sensitivity may occur in patients with allergies to ragweed or chrysanthemums.
Use with caution in patients with a history of asthma.
Pregnancy/Lactation: Consult a doctor. Though generally thought safe, the drug's distribution in breast milk is unknown (may temporarily withhold the drug while nursing).
Persistent Itching: Itching may last for a few weeks after treatment; this is usually an allergic reaction to dead mites and does not necessarily indicate treatment failure.9 If the condition persists after 14 days, consult a doctor.
