Pikos 100ml 

Presentation: Pikos 100ml is an oral solution typically containing Sodium Picosulfate as the active ingredient, usually at a concentration of 5 mg per 5 ml. It is available in 100 ml bottles.

Indications: Pikos (Sodium Picosulfate) is a stimulant laxative indicated for:

• Short-term relief of occasional constipation.
• Relief from prolonged and recurrent constipation.  
• Bowel clearance before surgery, childbirth, or radiological investigations.  

Dosage and Administration: Pikos oral solution is usually taken at night to produce evacuation the following morning. It is recommended to start with the lowest effective dose. The dose may be adjusted up to the maximum recommended dose to produce regular stools. The maximum recommended daily dose should not be exceeded.  

• Adults and children over 10 years:   5-10 ml (one to two teaspoonfuls) per day.
• Children aged 4-10 years: 2.5-5 ml (half to one teaspoonful) per day.
• Children from 1 month to 4 years:0.25 ml per kg body weight per day.  

Use the measuring spoon or cup provided for accurate dosing.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain and cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Less common side effects may include dizziness, syncope, and hypersensitivity reactions (including rash and urticaria). Prolonged excessive use may lead to fluid and electrolyte imbalance, particularly hypokalemia.  

Precautions: Pikos (Sodium Picosulfate) is contraindicated in patients with:

• Ileus or intestinal obstruction.
• Severe painful and/or feverish acute abdominal conditions (e.g., appendicitis).  
• Acute inflammatory bowel diseases.  
• Severe dehydration.  
• Known hypersensitivity to Sodium Picosulfate or any other component of theproduct.

Caution should be exercised in patients with recent gastrointestinal surgery, renal impairment, heart disease, or inflammatory bowel disease. The concomitant use of diuretics or adreno-corticosteroids may increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance.Concurrent administration of antibiotics may reduce the laxative action.  

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: While long experience has shown no evidence of undesirable or damaging effects during pregnancy, it is generally recommended to avoid use during the first trimester. Clinical data show that neither the active moiety of sodium picosulfate nor its glucuronides are excreted into breast milk.

Storage:Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture.Keep out of reach of children.
