Emistat

Presentation: Each tablet contains Ondansetron Hydrochloride Dihydrate equivalent to Ondansetron. Available in strengths such as 4 mg and 8 mg, in strips.

Indications: Emistat is indicated for the prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery (postoperative nausea and vomiting - PONV).

Dosage and Administration: The dosage depends on the emetogenic potential of the treatment and the patient's condition.

• Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting (CINV): Adults: Typically 8 mg orally 1-2 hours before chemotherapy, then 8 mg every 12 hours for up to 5 days. Children (6 months to 18 years): Dosage is weight-based; consult the physician.
• Radiotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting (RINV): Adults: Usually 8 mg orally 1-2 hours before radiotherapy.
• Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV): Adults: 16 mg orally one hour before anesthesia or 8 mg one hour before anesthesia followed by two 8 mg doses at 8-hour intervals. Children (over 2 years): Dosage is weight-based; consult the physician.

Administer orally as directed by the physician.

Side Effects: Common side effects include headache, constipation, and fatigue. Less common include dizziness and transient increases in liver enzymes. Rare side effects may involve hypersensitivity reactions and ECG changes.

Precautions: Use with caution in patients with hypersensitivity to other 5-HT3 antagonists, severe hepatic impairment, or conditions that may prolong the QT interval. Consider potential interactions with other medications affecting the QT interval or serotonin levels. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed; breastfeeding is not recommended.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
