👃 Avamist (Fluticasone Furoate)
Avamist is a potent corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation. It is available as a Nasal Spray for allergies and an Inhalation Powder for asthma maintenance.
📋 Primary Indications
- Nasal Spray: Treats symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (sneezing, runny/itchy nose) in patients aged 2 years and older.
- Inhalation: Used for once-daily maintenance treatment of asthma in patients aged 5 years and older. ⚠️ Note: Not for acute asthma attacks.
🥄 Dosage and Usage
Nasal Spray:
- Adults & Children (>12 years): 2 sprays in each nostril once daily.
- Children (2–11 years): 1 spray in each nostril once daily.
- Important: Shake vigorously for 10 seconds before use. The device must be primed (sprayed into the air) before first use or if unused for 30 days.
Inhalation Powder:
- Adults & Adolescents: Usually 100 mcg once daily. May be increased to 200 mcg if needed.
- Children (5–11 years): 50 mcg once daily.
🧼 Administration Tips
- Gently blow your nose before use.
- Tilt your head forward slightly.
- Breathe in through the nose while spraying and out through the mouth.
- Clean the nozzle at least once a week with warm water.
⚠️ Safety & Side Effects
- Common Side Effects: Nosebleeds, nasal dryness, headache, and sore throat (nasopharyngitis).
- Precautions:
- Avoid contact with eyes.
- Use with caution if you have severe liver disease.
- Long-term use of high doses may require monitoring for eye issues like cataracts or glaucoma.
- Interactions: Use caution if taking Ritonavir or Ketoconazole, as these can increase the medicine's level in your body.
