Xyril Suspension - (10mg/5ml) contains Hydroxyzine Hydrochlorideas its active ingredient. The strength indicates that each 5 ml of the syrup contains 10 mg of Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride. It is typically available in bottles of 100 ml.

Indications:

Xyril (Hydroxyzine) is an antihistamine with anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) properties. It is used for:

  • Symptomatic relief of anxiety and tensionassociated with psychoneurosis and as an adjunct in organic disease states where anxiety is manifested.
  • Management of pruritus (itching) due to allergic conditions such as chronic urticaria, atopic and contact dermatoses, and histamine-mediated pruritus.
  • As a sedativewhen used as premedication and following general anesthesia.

Pharmacology:

Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride is an H1 receptor antagonist. It is not a cortical depressant, but its action may be due to suppression of activity in certain key regions of the subcortical area of the central nervous system. It has also demonstrated skeletal muscle relaxation, bronchodilator, antihistaminic, and analgesic effects experimentally and clinically. Additionally, it has an antiemetic effect.

Dosage and Administration:

The dosage of Xyril Syrup depends on the condition being treated and the age of the patient.Always follow your doctor's prescription.

Typical dosages are:

    • For anxiety and tension: 50-100 mg (25-50 ml) four times daily.
    • For pruritus: 25 mg (12.5 ml) three to four times daily.
    • As a sedative (premedication and following general anesthesia): 50-100 mg (25-50 ml).

  • The potentiating action of Xyril must be considered when used with central nervous system depressants such as narcotics, non-narcotic analgesics, and barbiturates.
  • Patients should be advised against the simultaneous use of other CNS depressant drugs and cautioned that the effect of alcohol may be increased.
  • Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment (half of the normal dose may be given in renal impairment).
  • Since drowsiness may occur, patients should be cautioned against driving or operating dangerous machinery.

Contraindications:

Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride is contraindicated in patients with:

  • Known hypersensitivity to hydroxyzine or any of its ingredients.
  • Early pregnancy.
  • Nursing mothers.
  • Prolonged QT interval.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
