Vesifen 5 

Presentation: Vesifen 5 is available as film-coated tablets containing 5 mg of solifenacin succinate. 

Indications: Vesifen 5 is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of urge incontinence and/or increased urinary frequency and urgency as may occur in patients with overactive bladder syndrome.  

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose for adults and the elderly is 5 mg once daily. If needed, the dose may be increased to 10 mg once daily. Vesifen 5 tablets should be swallowed whole with liquids and can be taken with or without food.

Side Effects: The most commonly reported side effect with Vesifen 5 is dry mouth. Other common side effects may include:

• Constipation
• Nausea
• Dyspepsia (indigestion)
• Abdominal pain
• Blurred vision

Uncommon side effects may include:

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease
• Dry throat
• Urinary tract infection
• Cystitis (bladder infection)
• Somnolence (drowsiness)
• Dysgeusia (altered taste)
• Dry eyes
• Fatigue
• Peripheral edema (swelling in the extremities)
• Nasal dryness

Rare side effects may include:

• Colonic obstruction
• Fecal impaction
• Urinary retention
• Dizziness
• Headache

Very rare side effects may include:

• Vomiting
• Hallucinations
• Pruritus (itching)
• Rash
• Urticaria (hives)

Precautions:

• Other causes of frequent urination (heart failure or renal disease) should be assessed before treatment with Vesifen 5.
• If a urinary tract infection is present, appropriate antibacterial therapy should be started.
• Vesifen 5 should be used with caution in patients with clinically significant bladder outflow obstruction at risk of urinary retention, gastrointestinal obstructive disorders, risk of decreased gastrointestinal motility, severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 ml/min), moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh score of 7 to 9), hiatus hernia with reflux esophagitis, and autonomic neuropathy.
• The maximum dose of Vesifen 5 should be restricted to 5 mg when used simultaneously with potent CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, nelfinavir).
• Vesifen 5 is contraindicated in patients with urinary retention, severe gastro-intestinal condition (including toxic megacolon), myasthenia gravis, uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, patients undergoing hemodialysis, patients with severe hepatic impairment, and patients with severe renal impairment or moderate hepatic impairment who are also receiving a potent CYP3A4 inhibitor.
• Caution is advised when consuming alcohol with Vesifen 5.
• Vesifen 5 may cause blurred vision, somnolence, and fatigue, which may impair the ability to drive or operate machinery.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
