Trihexy 2

Presentation: Each tablet contains Trihexyphenidyl Hydrochloride 2 mg. Available in strips of 10 tablets (1 strip).

Indications: Trihexy is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of all forms of parkinsonism (idiopathic, postencephalitic, arteriosclerotic) and for the control of extrapyramidal disorders caused by central nervous system drugs such as phenothiazines.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage is highly individualized and determined by the physician.

• Parkinsonism: The usual initial dose is 1 mg on the first day, increased by 2 mg increments at intervals of 3 to 5 days, until a total daily dose of 6 to 10 mg is reached. The total daily dose is usually administered in three or four divided doses at mealtimes and at bedtime.
• Drug-Induced Extrapyramidal Disorders: The usual daily dose ranges from 5 to 15 mg. The exact dose and frequency will be determined by the physician based on the severity of symptoms and the response to treatment.

Trihexy tablets are administered orally. It is important to follow the physician's instructions precisely regarding the dosage schedule and any adjustments.

Side Effects: Common side effects are due to its anticholinergic activity and may include dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, urinary retention, and tachycardia (fast heartbeat). Less common side effects can include drowsiness, dizziness, nervousness, confusion, and hallucinations. Elderly patients may be more susceptible to certain side effects.

Precautions: Before starting Trihexy, inform your physician about any pre-existing medical conditions, including:

• Glaucoma (especially narrow-angle glaucoma)
• Prostatic hypertrophy or difficulty urinating
• Tachycardia or other heart problems
• Gastrointestinal obstruction
• Liver or kidney disease
• History of drug abuse or dependence
• Myasthenia gravis

Trihexy may interact with other medications, including other anticholinergics, antihistamines, certain antidepressants, and antipsychotics. Inform your physician about all medications you are currently taking.

Due to its anticholinergic effects, Trihexy may cause blurred vision and drowsiness. Patients should exercise caution while driving or operating machinery. Avoid alcohol consumption.

Regular monitoring may be required during treatment, especially in elderly patients. Do not stop taking Trihexy abruptly without consulting your physician, as withdrawal symptoms may occur.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
