Presentation: Each tablet of Thyzol 10 contains 10 mg of Methimazole. It is available in strips. The tablets have specific shapes and markings depending on the manufacturer in Bangladesh (Nuvista Pharma Ltd.).
Indications: Thyzol (methimazole) is indicated for the treatment of hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland), including:
Dosage and Administration: The total daily dosage is usually given in 3 divided doses at approximately 8-hour intervals.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include skin rash, urticaria, nausea, vomiting, epigastric distress, arthralgia, paresthesia, loss of taste, abnormal loss of hair, myalgia, headache, pruritus, drowsiness, neuritis, edema, vertigo, skin pigmentation, jaundice, sialadenopathy, and lymphadenopathy.Less common but serious side effects can include agranulocytosis, granulocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, aplastic anemia, drug fever, a lupus-like syndrome, insulin autoimmune syndrome (which canresult in hypoglycemic coma), hepatitis,periarteritis, and hypoprothrombinemia.
Precautions: Thyzol (methimazole) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to methimazole or other thionamide derivatives. It readily crosses placental membranes and can cause fetal harm, particularly when administered in the first trimester of pregnancy.Patients should immediately report any symptoms suggestive of agranulocytosis, such as fever or sore throat. Liver toxicity and hypothyroidism can occur. Thyroid function tests should be monitored periodically during therapy. Concurrent use with anticoagulants (oral) may increase their activity. Beta-adrenergic blocking agents may require dose reduction as the patient becomes euthyroid.
