Thyronor 50

Presentation: Each tablet contains 50 micrograms (mcg) of levothyroxine sodium.  

Indications: Thyronor 50 is indicated as replacement or supplemental therapy in patients with hypothyroidism of any etiology, except transient hypothyroidism during the recovery phase of subacute thyroiditis. Specific indications include:  

• Primary hypothyroidism (due to thyroid gland dysfunction)
• Secondary (pituitary) or tertiary (hypothalamic) hypothyroidism  
• Subclinical hypothyroidism (mild thyroid failure with elevated TSH)
• Suppression of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancer, thyroid nodules, and goiters.
• As a diagnostic agent in thyroid suppression tests.  

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Thyronor 50 is highly individualized and depends on the patient's age, weight, cardiovascular status, the specific condition being treated, and the results of thyroid function tests (primarily TSH levels).  

• It is generally recommended to take Thyronor 50 as a single daily dose on an empty stomach, preferably 30 minutes to one hour before the first meal of the day, with a full glass of water. This helps to ensure consistent absorption.
• Tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed.  
• The starting dose may vary, and adjustments are made by your doctor based on regular monitoring of TSH levels and clinical response.  
• In adults with primary hypothyroidism, the initial dose might range from 25 to 50 mcg per day. The dose is usually increased gradually at intervals of 2 to 4 weeks until a euthyroid state (normal thyroid hormone levels) is achieved.  
• In children, the starting dose is usually based on body weight.
• Lifelong therapy is usually required for most patients with hypothyroidism.  

Side Effects: Side effects of Thyronor 50 are usually associated with excessive dosage, leading to symptoms of hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid). These may include:

• Palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat)  
• Nervousness, anxiety, irritability  
• Tremors (shaking)  
• Weight loss  
• Increased appetite  
• Heat intolerance, excessive sweating  
• Diarrhea  
• Insomnia (difficulty sleeping)  
• Hair loss (usually temporary)  

If any of these symptoms occur, it is important to contact your doctor, as your dosage may need to be adjusted. Allergic reactions to the medication are rare.

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially heart problems, high blood pressure, adrenal insufficiency, or diabetes, as dosage adjustments of Thyronor 50 or other medications may be necessary.
• Certain medications and supplements can interfere with the absorption of levothyroxine. These include antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, calcium and iron supplements, sucralfate, and some cholesterol-lowering drugs. It is generally recommended to take Thyronor 50 at least 4 hours apart from these substances.  
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as your levothyroxine dosage may need to be adjusted during these periods. Levothyroxine is generally considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding when taken at the correct dose.
• Avoid changing brands of levothyroxine without consulting your doctor, as different formulations may have slightly different bioavailability.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
