Thyronor 100
Presentation:Each tablet contains 100 mcg of levothyroxine sodium.
Indications:Thyronor 100 is indicated for hormone replacement therapy in hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. It is used in:
Dosage and Administration: Thyronor 100 tablets are for oral administration and should be taken once daily, preferably on an empty stomach, 30 minutes to one hour before breakfast, to ensure consistent absorption. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water.
The dosage is highly individualized and depends on the patient's age, weight, clinical response, and thyroid function tests (serum thyroid-stimulating hormone [TSH] and thyroxine [T4] levels).
Dosage adjustments should be guided by regular monitoring of TSH levels. The aim is to normalize TSH within the target range for the individual patient.
Side Effects: Side effects of levothyroxine are usually associated with hyperthyroidism due to excessive dosage. These may include palpitations, tachycardia, nervousness, irritability, insomnia, tremor, headache, sweating, weight loss, increased appetite, diarrhea, heat intolerance, and menstrual irregularities. Chest pain or worsening of angina may occur in patients with pre-existing cardiovascular disease.
Hypersensitivity reactions, such as skin rash and urticaria, are rare.
Precautions: Thyronor 100 should be used with caution in patients with pre-existing cardiovascular disease, especially angina pectoris or coronary artery disease, as thyroid hormone can increase myocardial oxygen demand. Lower starting doses and slower titration are recommended in these patients.
Caution is also advised in patients with adrenal insufficiency, as thyroid hormone replacement may precipitate an acute adrenal crisis. Concomitant glucocorticoid therapy may be necessary.
Changes in thyroid status may affect the dosage requirements of other medications, such as anticoagulants (warfarin) and insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents. Careful monitoring and adjustment of these medications may be necessary.
During pregnancy, thyroid hormone requirements often increase, and TSH levels should be monitored closely. Levothyroxine is considered safe for use during breastfeeding.
Inform healthcare professionals about all other medications being taken, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, as interactions may occur that can affect the absorption, metabolism, or efficacy of levothyroxine.
Storage: Store at room temperature (15°C to 30°C), protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
