Synthox-50

Presentation: Tablets containing 50 mg levothyroxine sodium.

Indications: Primarily indicated as replacement or supplemental therapy in hypothyroidism of any etiology (primary, secondary, or tertiary). May also be used for suppression of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in the management of thyroid cancer and in the diagnosis of certain thyroid disorders.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage is highly individualized and depends on the patient's age, weight, cardiovascular status, the specific hypothyroid condition, concomitant medications, and laboratory results (primarily TSH levels). Initial doses are usually low and gradually increased over several weeks or months based on clinical response and TSH levels. Administer orally as a single daily dose, preferably on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes to one hour before breakfast. Certain medications and foods can affect levothyroxine absorption. Follow physician's specific instructions.

Side Effects: Side effects are usually associated with excessive dosage and resemble symptoms of hyperthyroidism, such as palpitations, tachycardia, nervousness, irritability, tremor, insomnia, increased sweating, heat intolerance, weight loss, increased appetite, diarrhea, and menstrual irregularities. Chest pain may occur or be exacerbated in patients with pre-existing cardiovascular disease. If overdose occurs, treatment should be discontinued or the dose reduced, and symptomatic treatment may be initiated.

Precautions: Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease (especially angina pectoris and myocardial infarction), hypertension, and in the elderly due to an increased risk of cardiac adverse reactions. In patients with severe or long-standing hypothyroidism, initiate treatment with a low dose and increase gradually. Monitor thyroid function tests (TSH, free T4) regularly to ensure adequate replacement and avoid over- or under-treatment. Drug interactions can occur with various medications, including antacids, iron supplements, calcium supplements, and certain cholesterol-lowering drugs, which can impair levothyroxine absorption. Inform your doctor of all medications you are taking. Use during pregnancy is generally considered safe but dosage adjustments may be necessary.

Storage: Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
