Surecal-DX 

Presentation: Film-coated tablets containing Calcium Carbonate (eggshell or coral source) and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol), available in strengths of 500 mg elemental Calcium with 200 IU Vitamin D3, and 600 mg elemental Calcium with 400 IU Vitamin D3. Available in strips. Manufactured by Ziska Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and possibly others in Bangladesh.

Ingredients: Calcium Carbonate BP (eggshell or coral source) equivalent to elemental Calcium (500 mg or 600 mg) and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) BP (200 IU or 400 IU). May contain small amounts of Magnesium, Phosphorus, and Strontium (eggshell source).

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, and hypoparathyroidism. Also used to ensure adequate Calcium and Vitamin D3 intake in conditions such as pregnancy and lactation, post-menopausal osteoporosis, senile osteoporosis, and in patients taking drugs that may induce osteoporosis (e.g., Phenytoin, Phenobarbital, Prednisolone). May also be used as a routine supplement.

Dosage & Administration: One tablet in the morning and one tablet at night, or as directed by a physician. Use in children and adolescents should be directed by a physician.

Side Effects: Generally, orally administered Calcium Carbonate may be irritating to the GI tract and may cause constipation. Eggshell Calcium is reported to be safe for long-term use without causing significant GI discomfort or constipation. Rare side effects include kidney stones, hypercalcemia, alkalosis, and loss of appetite.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, hypercalciuria, nephrolithiasis, hypersensitivity to any component, and severe renal insufficiency. Concomitant digoxin therapy requires careful monitoring of serum Calcium levels. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of kidney stone formation, and increased fluid intake is recommended. Use during pregnancy and lactation should be as directed by a physician.

Storage: Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
