Surecal-D 

Presentation: Film-coated tablets containing Calcium Carbonate (eggshell source) and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol). Available in strengths of 500 mg elemental Calcium with 200 IU Vitamin D3, and 600 mg elemental Calcium with 400 IU Vitamin D3. Available in strips. Manufactured by Ziska Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Ingredients: Calcium Carbonate BP (eggshell source) equivalent to elemental Calcium (either 500 mg or 600 mg) and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) BP (either 200 IU or 400 IU). Contains small amounts of Magnesium, Phosphorus, and Strontium.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of bone loss (osteoporosis), weak bones (osteomalacia, osteopenia), and rickets. Also used for decreased activity of the parathyroid gland (hypoparathyroidism) and latent tetany. May be used to ensure adequate Calcium and Vitamin D3 in pregnancy and lactation, post-menopausal osteoporosis, senile osteoporosis, and in cases of drug-induced osteoporosis (e.g., due to Phenytoin, Phenobarbital, or Prednisolone-type drugs).

Dosage & Administration: One tablet in the morning and one tablet at night, or as directed by a physician. Use in children and adolescents should be directed by the physician. May be taken with or without food, but taking with food may enhance absorption and minimize gastrointestinal upset.

Side Effects: Common side effects are generally mild and may include gastrointestinal irritation. Eggshell calcium is reportedly safe for long-term use without causing significant gastrointestinal discomfort or constipation. Rare side effects may include kidney stones, hypercalcemia, alkalosis, and loss of appetite.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, hypercalciuria, nephrolithiasis, hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation, and severe renal insufficiency. Careful monitoring of serum calcium levels is required with concomitant digoxin therapy. Use with caution in patients with a history of kidney stone formation, and adequate fluid intake is recommended.

Storage: Store in a cool (below 30°C) and dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
