Sperdal 4mg Tablet

Generic Name: Risperidone

Indications:

• Acute and chronic psychoses

• Schizophrenia

• Mania in bipolar disorder

Pharmacology:

• Sperdal 4mg is a selective monoaminergic antagonist with a high affinity for serotoninergic 5-HT2 and dopaminergic D2 receptors.

Dosage & Administration:

• Psychoses: 2 mg in 1-2 divided doses on the 1st day, then 4 mg in 1-2 divided doses on the 2nd day. Usual dose range is 4-6 mg daily.

• Mania: Initially 2 mg once daily, increased if necessary in steps of 1 mg daily. Usual dose range is 1-6 mg daily.

• Schizophrenia: Initially 1 mg twice daily, with increases of 1 mg twice daily on the 2nd and 3rd day as tolerated, to a target dose of 3 mg twice daily by the 3rd day.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to the product.

Side Effects:

• Insomnia, agitation, anxiety, headache

• Less commonly: drowsiness, impaired concentration, fatigue, blurred vision, constipation, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain

• Hyperprolactinemia, urine incontinence, tachycardia, hypertension, edema, rash, rhinitis, cerebrovascular accident, neutropenia

Pregnancy & Lactation:

• Pregnancy: Sperdal 4mg should be used during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh the potential risks.

• Lactation: Women receiving Sperdal 4mg should not breastfeed.

Precautions & Warnings:

• Pre-existing cardiovascular diseases

• Discontinue use if signs and symptoms of tardive dyskinesia occur

• Renal and hepatic impairment

• Elderly

• Epilepsy

• Parkinson's disease

• Pregnancy

Storage Conditions:

• Do not store above 30°C.

• Keep away from light and out of the reach of children.
