Sperdal 2
Presentation: Each tablet contains 2 mg of Risperidone.
Indications: Sperdal 2 is indicated for the treatment of:
- Schizophrenia
- Bipolar disorder (manic or mixed episodes)
- Irritability associated with autistic disorder in children and adolescents
Dosage and Administration:
- Schizophrenia:
- Adults: The usual starting dose is 2 mg once or twice daily. The dose may be adjusted gradually to 4-6 mg daily.
- Adolescents (13-17 years): The usual starting dose is 0.5 mg once or twice daily, with gradual increases to a target dose of 1-6 mg daily.
- Bipolar Disorder:
- Adults: The usual starting dose is 2-3 mg once daily. The dose may be adjusted to a target dose of 1-6 mg daily.
- Children and Adolescents (10-17 years): The usual starting dose is 0.5 mg once daily, with gradual increases to a target dose of 1-6 mg daily.
- Autistic Disorder:
- Children and Adolescents (5-16 years): Dosing is based on weight and should be determined by a physician.
It can be taken with or without food.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include:
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Increased appetite and weight gain
- Extrapyramidal symptoms (tremors, muscle stiffness, restlessness)
- Fatigue
- Blurred vision
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
Precautions:
- Inform your doctor if you have a history of cardiovascular disease, seizures, or diabetes.
- Use with caution in elderly patients and those with kidney or liver problems.
- It may increase prolactin levels, leading to breast enlargement and milk production in both men and women.
- Sperdal 2 may interact with other medications, including certain antidepressants and antipsychotics.
- Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Sperdal 2.
- Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should only occur if the potential benefits outweigh the risks, and under the guidance of a physician.
Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
