Sacutril 50 Tablet

Description

Sacutril 50 Tablet contains a combination of sacubitril and valsartan. This combination medicine is used to treat heart failure. It helps to reduce the risk of hospitalization and cardiovascular death in patients with chronic heart failure.

Pharmacology

Sacutril and valsartan work together to enhance the levels of natriuretic peptides while simultaneously inhibiting the effects of angiotensin II. Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that blocks the action of substances that narrow blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more smoothly and helping the heart to pump more efficiently. Sacubitril is a neprilysin inhibitor. Neprilysin is an enzyme that breaks down natriuretic peptides. By inhibiting neprilysin, sacubitril increases the levels of these peptides, which promote vasodilation, sodium excretion, and a decrease in cardiac workload.

Dosage & Administration

The usual starting dose of Sacutril 50 is one tablet twice daily. The dosage may be increased by your doctor, depending on your response to the medication. Sacutril 50 can be taken with or without food. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Contraindications

Sacutril 50 is contraindicated in patients with:

• Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug

• A history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor or ARB therapy

• Concomitant use of ACE inhibitors. Do not administer within 36 hours of switching from or to an ACE inhibitor.

• Concomitant use of aliskiren in patients with diabetes

Precautions & Warnings

• Hypotension: Sacutril 50 can cause low blood pressure, especially in volume-depleted patients.

• Hyperkalemia: Sacutril 50 can increase potassium levels. Monitor potassium, especially in patients with renal impairment, diabetes, or those taking potassium-sparing diuretics.

• Renal Impairment: Sacutril 50 should be used with caution in patients with severe renal impairment.

• Hepatic Impairment: Sacutril 50 should be used with caution in patients with moderate hepatic impairment. It is not recommended for use in patients with severe hepatic impairment.

• Angioedema: Sacutril 50 can cause angioedema. Discontinue immediately if this occurs.

Less common side effects include:

• Renal impairment

• Orthostatic hypotension

• Diarrhea

• Fatigue

• Nausea

• Headache

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation

Sacutril 50 is contraindicated in pregnancy. It should not be used during breastfeeding.
