S-Citapram 5 Tablet

Generic Name: Escitalopram

Strength: 5 mg

Presentation: Film-coated tablets.

Indications:

• Treatment of major depressive episodes.

• Treatment of panic disorder with or without agoraphobia.

• Treatment of social anxiety disorder (social phobia)

• Treatment of generalized anxiety disorder.

• Treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Dosage and Administration:

• Administered as a single daily dose.

• May be taken with or without food.

• Adults:

  • Major depressive episodes: Usual dosage is 10 mg once daily. May be increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily.

  • Panic disorder with or without agoraphobia: Initial dose of 5 mg once daily for the first week, increased to 10 mg daily. May be further increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily.

  • Social anxiety disorder: Usual dosage is 10 mg once daily. May be decreased to 5 mg or increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily, depending on response.

  • Generalized anxiety disorder: Initial dosage is 10 mg once daily. May be increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily.

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: Initial dosage is 10 mg once daily. Depending on the individual patient response, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily.

• Elderly Patients (>65 years of age): Initial dosage is 5 mg once daily. May be increased to 10 mg daily.

• Children and adolescents (<18 years): S-Citapram should not be used.

• Reduced renal function: No dosage adjustment is necessary for mild or moderate renal impairment. Caution is advised in severe renal impairment (CLCR less than 30 ml/min).

Contraindications:

• Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).

• Concomitant use with pimozide.

• Hypersensitivity to escitalopram or citalopram or any inactive ingredients.

Warnings and Precautions:

• Discontinuation symptoms may occur, particularly with abrupt cessation. Gradual dose reduction is recommended.

• Pregnancy: Should not be used during pregnancy unless the expected benefits outweigh the possible hazards to the fetus.

• Nursing Mothers: S-Citapram is excreted in human milk. Should not be given to nursing mothers unless the expected benefits outweigh the possible hazards to the child.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea

• Insomnia

• Problems with ejaculation

• Drowsiness

• Increased sweating

• Fatigue

Drug Interactions:

• MAOIs: Should not be started until 2 weeks after stopping an MAOI. An MAOI should not be started until at least a week after stopping S-Citapram.

• Increased risk of bleeding when used with aspirin, NSAIDs or drugs that affect coagulation.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of the reach of children.
