Rubee 20

Presentation: Rubee 20 is available as enteric-coated tablets, each containing 20 mg of rabeprazole sodium.

Indications: Rubee 20 (rabeprazole) is indicated for the treatment of various conditions related to excessive stomach acid production, including:

• Active duodenal ulcer  
• Active benign gastric ulcer  
• Symptomatic erosive or ulcerative gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)  
• Long-term management of GERD (GERD maintenance)  
• Symptomatic treatment of moderate to very severe GERD (symptomatic GERD)  
• Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome  
• In combinationwith appropriate antibacterial therapeutic regimens for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with peptic ulcerdisease.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose of Rubee 20 is one 20 mg tablet once daily, preferably in the morning before eating. The dosage and duration of treatment will depend on the specific condition being treated and the patient's response, as determined by a physician.

• For active duodenal ulcer and active benign gastric ulcer: 20 mg once daily in the morning. Most patients with duodenal ulcer heal within four weeks, and most with benign gastric ulcer heal within six weeks, though some may require additional weeks of therapy.
• For erosive or ulcerative GERD: 20 mg once daily for four to eight weeks.
• For long-term management of GERD: A maintenance dose of 20 mg or 10 mg once daily can be used depending on patient response.
• For symptomatic GERD without oesophagitis: 10 mg once daily. If symptoms are not controlled after four weeks, further investigation is needed. Once resolved, subsequent symptom control can be achieved with an on-demand regimen of 10 mg once daily when needed.
• For Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: The recommended adult starting dose is 60 mg once a day, which may be adjusted up to 120 mg/day based on individual needs. Doses up to 100 mg once daily may be given, and doses of 120 mg may require division into two 60 mg doses daily.
• For H. pylori eradication: Rubee 20 mg twice daily is recommended in combination with specific antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin and clarithromycin) for seven days. Rubee 20 tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed. They should be taken in the morning before food.

Side Effects: Rabeprazole is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects may include:

• Headache
• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Flatulence
• Abdominal pain
• Sore throat
• Infection
• Constipation

Less common side effects may include dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia, skin rash, and changes in liver enzymes. Long-term use of proton pump inhibitors like rabeprazole may be associated with an increased risk of bone fracture, vitamin B12 deficiency, and low magnesium levels (hypomagnesemia).

Precautions: Before taking Rubee 20, inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially liver problems. Gastric malignancy should be excluded before starting treatment. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be with caution and only if clearly needed. Rubee 20 may interact with other medications, including certain antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole), and some HIV medications. Long-term use may require periodic monitoring by your doctor. Patients should be advised to report any symptoms of low magnesium levels (e.g., muscle spasms, irregular heartbeat).

Storage: Store Rubee 20 tablets below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
