Roceptin

Presentation: Roceptin, available in Bangladesh, is a brand name for products containing Omeprazole. It is available in capsule form, typically in strengths of 20 mg and 40 mg. The capsules are usually enteric-coated and are available in blister packs. Roceptin is a product of Desh Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Indications: Roceptin (Omeprazole) is indicated for the treatment and management of various acid-related disorders, including:

• Gastric ulcer
• Duodenal ulcer
• Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), including symptomatic relief and healing of erosive esophagitis.
• Long-term management of acid reflux disease.
• Acid-related dyspepsia.
• Prevention of NSAID-associated gastric and duodenal ulcers in patients at risk.
• Helicobacter pylori eradication (in combination with antibiotics).
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
• Prophylaxis of acid aspiration during general anesthesia (intravenous formulation may be available for this indication).

Dosage and Administration: Roceptin capsules should be swallowed whole and should not be chewed or crushed. It is recommended to take Roceptin on an empty stomach, at least one hour before a meal, preferably in the morning. The dosage will vary depending on the condition being treated and the patient's response. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions.

• Gastric and Duodenal Ulcer: Usually 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks (duodenal ulcer) or 8 weeks (gastric ulcer). In severe cases, the dose may be increased to 40 mg daily.
• GERD: Usually 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. For maintenance therapy, 10-20 mg once daily may be used. In severe cases, 40 mg once daily may be used for up to 8 weeks.
• NSAID-associated Ulcers: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. For prophylaxis in patients at risk, 20 mg once daily.
• H. pylori Eradication: Omeprazole 20 mg twice daily is recommended in combination with specific antibiotics for a duration determined by the physician.
• Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: The initial dose is usually 60 mg once daily, adjusted based on acid secretion.

Side Effects: Roceptin (Omeprazole) is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects may include headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, abdominal pain, and constipation. Less common side effects can include dizziness, dry mouth, and skin rash. Long-term use may be associated with an increased risk of bone fractures, low magnesium levels, and vitamin B12 deficiency in some individuals.

Precautions: Roceptin (Omeprazole) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to omeprazole or any other components of the formulation. Gastric malignancy should be excluded before initiating therapy. Exercise caution in patients with severe liver disease and during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult your doctor before use. Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as Omeprazole can interact with certain drugs.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
