Renapine XR 50 Tablet

Presentation:

Each extended-release tablet contains 50 mg of Quetiapine.

Indications:

Renapine XR is an extended-release formulation of quetiapine indicated for the treatment of:

• Schizophrenia  
• Bipolar disorder, including manic and depressive episodes  
• Maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder  

Dosage and Administration:

Renapine XR tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed. It can be taken with or without food. The dosage will be determined by your doctor based on your condition and response to treatment.

• Schizophrenia: The usual starting dose is 300 mg on Day 1, increasing to 600 mg by Day 2. Further dosage adjustments may be made based on clinical response and tolerability, with a usual range of 400 to 800 mg daily.
• Bipolar Mania: The usual starting dose is 300 mg on Day 1, 600 mg on Day 2, and up to 800 mg by Day 3. Further dosage adjustments may be made based on clinical response and tolerability, with a usual range of 400 to 800 mg daily.
• Bipolar Depression: The usual starting dose is 50 mg on Day 1, 100 mg on Day 2, 200 mg on Day 3, and 300 mg on Day 4. The recommended dose range is 300 mg once daily.
• Maintenance Treatment of Bipolar I Disorder: Dosage should be individualized to the lowest effective maintenance dose.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

• Drowsiness  
• Dizziness  
• Dry mouth  
• Increased appetite
• Weight gain  
• Increased levels of triglycerides and cholesterol  
• Decreased levels of HDL cholesterol  

Less common but potentially serious side effects can occur. It's important to discuss any unusual symptoms with your doctor.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, or conditions predisposing to hypotension.  
• May cause orthostatic hypotension, especially during the initial dose titration period.  
• Monitor for signs and symptoms of tardive dyskinesia.
• Observe for any evidence of neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
• Monitor for hyperglycemia and diabetes.  
• Use with caution in the elderly.
• Not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.  
• Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult your doctor.

Contraindications:

Renapine XR is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to quetiapine or any of the excipients.

Drug Interactions:

Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as quetiapine can interact with other drugs. Particular caution should be exercised with drugs that affect liver enzymes (like CYP3A4 inducers such as carbamazepine and phenytoin, and inhibitors such as ketoconazole and erythromycin).

Storage:

Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
