Probal-DX 

Presentation: Film-coated tablets, available in strengths of 500mg elemental Calcium with 200 IU Vitamin D3, and 600mg elemental Calcium with 400 IU Vitamin D3. Available in strips. Manufactured by Pharmasia Limited and possibly others in Bangladesh.

Ingredients: Calcium Carbonate USP (Coral source) equivalent to elemental Calcium (500 mg or 600 mg) and Vitamin D3 USP (200 IU or 400 IU as Cholecalciferol).

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetany, and hypoparathyroidism. Also used as a supplement in case of inadequate intake of Calcium in childhood diet, rickets, pregnancy and lactation, and in elderly patients. Other indications include pancreatitis and as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure.

Dosage & Administration: One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by the physician. Taking with a full stomach ensures better absorption.

Side Effects: Orally administered Calcium Carbonate may be irritating to the gastrointestinal tract and can cause constipation. Hypercalcemia is rarely produced by administration of Calcium alone but may occur when large doses are given to patientswith chronic renal failure.  

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypercalcaemia, hypercalciuria, nephrolithiasis, hypervitaminosis D, and hypersensitivity to any of the components. Caution should be exercised in patients with mild hypercalciuria, mild to moderate renal impairment, and a history of renal stones. Monitor serum calcium levels during concomitant use of thiazide diuretics or systemic corticosteroids.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
