Picolax 10 

Presentation:Each tablet contains Sodium Picosulfate BP 10 mg.Picolax 10 is a product of Somatec Pharmaceuticals Ltd.in Bangladesh and is usually available in blister packs.

Indications:Picolax (Sodium Picosulfate) is indicated for the short-term relief of constipation of any etiology, including prolonged and recurrent constipation.It is also used for bowel clearance before surgery, childbirth, or radiological investigations.  

Dosage and Administration:Picolax 10 tablets are for oral administration.It is recommended to take the dose at night to produce evacuation the following morning. It is advisable to start with the lowest effective dose. The dose may be adjusted up to the maximum recommended dose to produce regular stools. The maximum recommended daily dose should not be exceeded.  

• Adults and children over 10 years:   5-10 mg (1 tablet) once daily at bedtime.
• Children (4-10 years): 2.5-5 mg (½ - 1 tablet) once daily at bedtime.
• Children under 4 years: Use of the oral solution is recommended; consult a physician for appropriate dosage based on body weight.

The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.  

Side Effects: Common side effects of Picolax (Sodium Picosulfate) may include:

• Abdominal discomfort, pain, or cramps  
• Diarrhoea  
• Nausea  
• Vomiting  

Less common side effects may include dizziness and hypersensitivity reactions.Prolonged excessive use may lead to fluid and electrolyte imbalance, including hypokalemia.

Precautions: Picolax is contraindicated in patients with:

• Ileus or intestinal obstruction.  
• Severe painful and/or feverish acute abdominal conditions (e.g., appendicitis), potentially associated with nausea and vomiting.  
• Acute inflammatory bowel diseases.  
• Severe dehydration.  
• Known hypersensitivity to Sodium Picosulfate or any other component of theproduct.  

Caution should be taken in pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, and individuals with liver disease or epilepsy. Prolonged use of laxatives may lead to dependence.The concomitant use of diuretics or adreno-corticosteroids may increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance. Concurrent administration of antibiotics may reduce the laxative action of this product.  

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Picolax should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed, and it is generally avoided during the first trimester. Clinical data suggest that Sodium Picosulfate is not excreted into breast milk; however, caution should be exercised, and it is best to consult a doctor before use during breastfeeding.

Storage:Keep below 30°C temperature, away from light and moisture.Keep out of the reach of children.
