Picolax 

Presentation:Picolax is a powder for oral solution containing Sodium Picosulfate BP. 

Indications:Picolax (Sodium Picosulfate) is a stimulant laxative indicated for:  

• Short-term relief of occasional constipation.
• Bowel preparation prior to diagnostic procedures (e.g., colonoscopy, X-ray examinations).  
• Bowel preparation prior to surgery.

Dosage and Administration:The contents of each sachet should be dissolved in a glass of water (approximately 150 ml or as directed).Stir well until the powder dissolves completely and drink the entire solution immediately. The dosage and timing depend on the indication.

• For Constipation:

  • Adults and children over 10 years: Usually one sachet at night. The effect is generally seen the following morning.
  • Children aged 4-10 years: Half a sachet at night.
  • Children under 4 years: Not recommended.

• For Bowel Preparation:The usual regimen involves taking two doses.The timing of these doses will be specified by your doctor or the instructions provided by the healthcare facility, usually the day before the procedure. An example regimen might be one sachet in the evening and the second sachet on the morning of the procedure, allowing an interval of at least 6 hours between the two doses. Follow the specific instructions provided by your healthcare provider. It is important to drink plenty of clear fluids after taking each dose to avoid dehydration.

Side Effects:Common side effects may include abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.Nausea and vomiting may also occur in some individuals.Less common side effects can include dizziness and electrolyte imbalances (with prolonged or excessive use).Hypersensitivity reactions, such as skin rash or itching, are rare.

Precautions: Picolax (Sodium Picosulfate) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to sodium picosulfate or any of its components, ileus or intestinal obstruction, severe painful abdominal conditions (such as appendicitis), acute inflammatory bowel diseases, and severe dehydration. Caution should be used in patients with impaired kidney function, heart disease, or a history of seizures.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: While considered generally safe for occasional use, pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using Picolax.

Storage:Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light.Keep out of reach of children. Use immediately after dissolving in water.
