Omenta (Omeprazole)

Presentation: Omenta is available in capsule form for oral administration. The capsules typically contain enteric-coated granules of omeprazole. The strength per capsule is usually 20 mg or 40 mg. The capsules are packaged in blister packs.

Indications: Omenta (omeprazole) is indicated for the treatment of:

• Duodenal ulcers
• Gastric ulcers
• NSAID-associated duodenal and gastric ulcers
• Prophylaxis in patients with a history of NSAID-associated duodenal and gastric ulcers
• Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Long-term management of acid reflux disease
• Acid-related dyspepsia
• Severe ulcerating reflux esophagitis
• Prophylaxis of acid aspiration during general anesthesia
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome 
• Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in combination with antibiotics.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Omenta will vary depending on the condition being treated and the patient's response. It should always be taken as directed by a physician.

• For duodenal ulcers: The usual dose is 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks. In severe cases, 40 mg once daily may be used.
• For gastric ulcers: The usual dose is 20 mg once daily for 8 weeks. In severe cases, 40 mg once daily may be used.
• For GERD: The usual dose is 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks, which may be continued for a further 4-8 weeks if not fully healed. For severe cases, 40 mg once daily for 8 weeks may be considered. Maintenance dose is usually 20 mg once daily.
• For H. pylori eradication: Omenta 20 mg twice daily is recommended in combination with specific antibiotics for one week.
• Omenta capsules should be swallowed whole and are best taken on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before a meal.

Side Effects: Omeprazole, the active ingredient in Omenta, is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects may include headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, abdominal pain, and constipation. Skin rashes have occurred in a few patients.

Less common side effects may include dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia, and changes in liver enzymes. Long-term use may be associated with an increased risk of bone fracture, vitamin B12 deficiency, and hypomagnesemia.

Precautions: Before taking Omenta, inform your doctor if you have any liver problems. Gastric malignancy should be excluded before starting treatment. Caution should be exercised during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Omenta may interact with other medications, including certain antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole), anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), and some HIV medications. Long-term use may require monitoring.

Storage: Store Omenta capsules below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
