Omeben Mups 20 

Presentation: Omeben Mups 20, available in Bangladesh, contains Omeprazole 20 mg in a Multiple Unit Pellet System (MUPS) tablet formulation. This formulation consists of enteric-coated micro pellets compressed into a tablet, designed to enhance drug absorption and reduce the risk of localized irritation. Omeben Mups 20 is a product of Benham Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Indications: Omeben Mups (Omeprazole) is indicated for the treatment and management of acid-related disorders, including:

• Duodenal ulcer
• Gastric ulcer
• NSAID-induced gastric and duodenal ulcers, and their prophylaxis in at-risk patients
• Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), including symptomatic relief and healing of erosive esophagitis
• Long-term management of acid reflux disease
• Acid-related dyspepsia
• Severe ulcerating reflux esophagitis
• Prevention of acid aspiration during general anesthesia
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
• Helicobacter pylori eradication (in combination with appropriate antibiotics)

Dosage and Administration: Omeben Mups 20 tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and should not be chewed or crushed. It is generally recommended to take it on an empty stomach, at least one hour before a meal, preferably in the morning. If swallowing the tablet is difficult, it can be dispersed in a glass of non-carbonated water; stir until the tablet disintegrates and drink the liquid within 30 minutes, stirring just before drinking. The dosage depends on the condition being treated and the physician's instructions.

• Duodenal Ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks; in severe cases, twice daily.
• Gastric Ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks; in severe cases, twice daily.
• GERD: 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks. For severe cases or if not healed, may continue for another 4-8 weeks or increase to 40 mg once daily. Maintenance dose is usually 20 mg once daily.
• H. pylori Eradication: 20 mg twice daily for one week, in combination with antibiotics.
• Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Starting dose is 60 mg once daily, adjusted based on clinical response.

Side Effects: Omeben Mups (Omeprazole) is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects may include headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, and dizziness. Less common side effects can include constipation, dry mouth, insomnia, and skin rash. Long-term use may be associated with an increased risk of bone fractures, low magnesium levels, and vitamin B12 deficiency in some individuals.

Precautions: Omeben Mups (Omeprazole) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to omeprazole or any other components of the formulation. Gastric malignancy should be excluded before initiating therapy. Caution should be exercised in patients with severe liver dysfunction and renal impairment. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be avoided unless clearly necessary and the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Omeprazole can interact with several other medications.

Storage: Store in a cool (below 30°C) and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
