Omeben 20 

Presentation: Omeben 20, available in Bangladesh, contains Omeprazole 20 mg. It is usually presented as enteric-coated capsules for oral administration and is available in blister packs. Omeben is a product of Benham Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Indications: Omeben (Omeprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) indicated for the treatment of acid-related disorders, including:

• Duodenal ulcer
• Gastric ulcer
• Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), including symptomatic relief and healing of erosive esophagitis
• Long-term management of acid reflux disease
• Acid-related dyspepsia
• Prevention of NSAID-associated gastric and duodenal ulcers in patients at risk
• Helicobacter pylori eradication (in combination with antibiotics)
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
• Prophylaxis of acid aspiration during general anesthesia

Dosage and Administration: Omeben 20 capsules should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and should not be chewed or crushed. It is recommended to take it before a meal, preferably in the morning. The dosage depends on the condition being treated and the physician's instructions.

• Duodenal Ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks.
• Gastric Ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks.
• GERD: 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks, which may be continued for a further 4-8 weeks if not fully healed. For maintenance therapy, 10-20 mg once daily may be used. For severe ulcerating reflux esophagitis, 20-40 mg once daily for 4-12 weeks may be used in children over 1 year based on weight.
• H. pylori Eradication: Omeprazole 20 mg twice daily is recommended in combination with specific antibiotics for one week.
• NSAID-associated Ulcers: 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks, which may be continued for a further 4 weeks if not fully healed. For prophylaxis in patients at risk, 20 mg once daily.
• Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: The initial dose is usually 60 mg once daily, adjusted based on acid secretion, with a usual range of 20-120 mg daily (doses above 80 mg should be divided).
• Prophylaxis of acid aspiration: 40 mg on the preceding evening, then 40 mg 2-6 hours before surgery.

Side Effects: Omeben (Omeprazole) is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects may include headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, and constipation. Less common side effects can include dizziness, dry mouth, and skin rash. Long-term use may be associated with an increased risk of bone fractures, low magnesium levels, and vitamin B12 deficiency in some individuals.

Precautions: Omeben (Omeprazole) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to omeprazole or any other components of the formulation. Gastric malignancy should be excluded before initiating therapy. Caution should be exercised in patients with severe liver disease and during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult your doctor before use. Omeprazole can interact with several other medications, including diazepam, warfarin, phenytoin, and clopidogrel.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
