Nutridex 250ml IV 

Presentation: Sterile, clear, colorless solution for intravenous infusion, available in 250 ml vials or bottles. Manufactured by Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and possibly others in Bangladesh. Contains Dextrose Monohydrate equivalent to Dextrose Anhydrous 25g per 100 ml (25% solution).

Ingredients: Dextrose Monohydrate BP equivalent to Dextrose Anhydrous BP 25% w/v in Water for Injection BP. Provides a source of calories and water.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment of carbohydrate and fluid depletion. Primarily used to replace water deficiency when there is no significant loss of electrolytes. May be used in conditions like coma, dysphagia, or in elderly patients with insufficient water intake. Also used in the emergency management of hyperkalemia (with insulin) and after correction of hyperglycemia during diabetic ketoacidosis (with continuous insulin infusion). Can act as a vehicle for slow intravenous infusion of some drugs.

Dosage & Administration: For intravenous use only. Dosage and rate of infusion depend on the individual patient's requirements and the physician's judgment, considering clinical condition, age, and body surface area. The maximum rate to avoid glycosuria is 0.5 g/kg/hour. The usual recommended flow rate for adults is 10-35 drops per minute. Should be infused through the largest available peripheral vein and not administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly.

Side Effects: Possible side effects include venous thrombosis, phlebitis, hypovolemia, hypervolemia, dehydration, edema, fever, mental confusion, unconsciousness, hyperosmolar syndrome, hyperglycemia, hypokalemia, acidosis, hypophosphatemia, hypomagnesemia, polyuria, glycosuria, ketonuria, nausea, diarrhea, polydipsia, vein irritation, and tissue necrosis.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to corn or corn products, diabetic coma with hyperglycemia, intracranial or intraspinal hemorrhage, severe dehydration, anuria, hepatic coma, or glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome. Use with caution in patients with overt or subclinical diabetes mellitus, carbohydrate intolerance, very low birth weight infants, and during pregnancy and lactation. Monitor blood and urinary glucose regularly. Rapid administration of hypertonic solutions may cause hyperglycemia and hyperosmolar syndrome.

Storage: Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Do not administer if the solution is cloudy or the seal is not intact.
