Novea 20 is a tablet containing a combination of Doxylamine Succinate 20mg and Pyridoxine Hydrochloride 20mg. It is manufactured by Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications:

Novea is indicated for the treatment of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy in women who do not respond to conservative management.

Dosage and Administration:

The typical dosage for Novea 20mg is one tablet daily at night. If symptoms persist on Day 2, the dose may be increased to one tablet in the morning and one tablet at night. The maximum recommended dose is two tablets per day (one in the morning and one at night).2 It should be taken on an empty stomach with a glass of water and swallowed whole, without crushing, chewing, or splitting. It is meant for daily use and not on an as-needed basis.

Side Effects:

The most common side effect of Novea is somnolence (drowsiness) due to the anticholinergic properties of Doxylamine Succinate. Other possible side effects may include dry mouth, constipation, and lightheadedness.

Precautions:

Novea is contraindicated in women with known hypersensitivity to Doxylamine Succinate, other ethanolamine derivative antihistamines, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride,3 or any inactive ingredient in the formulation,4 as well as those taking Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs). Caution should be exercised in women with asthma, increased intraocular pressure, narrow-angle glaucoma, stenosing peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal obstruction, or urinary bladder-neck obstruction.5 Women should avoid activities requiring complete mental alertness, such as driving or operating heavy machinery, while using Novea. Concomitant use with alcohol or other CNS depressants is not recommended as it may cause additive sedation.
