Norvis 50 is a tablet containing 50 mg of Tiemonium Methylsulphate. It is manufactured by Square Pharmaceuticals PLC in Bangladesh.

What it is: Tiemonium Methylsulphate is an antispasmodic drug. It works by reducing muscle spasms in the intestine, biliary system, bladder, and uterus.

Indications:

Norvis 50 is used for the symptomatic treatment of pain related to functional disorders of the:

• Digestive tract
• Biliary system

It is also indicated for the treatment of spasm and pain in:

• Urological diseases
• Gynaecological diseases

Pharmacology:

Tiemonium Methylsulphate is a competitive antagonist of Acetylcholine and Histamine. It also strengthens the bond between calcium and membrane phospholipids and proteins. This action inhibits the intracellular contractile protein of visceral cells, leading to the inhibition of visceral spasm and pain.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: The usual dose is 2 to 6 tablets (100-300 mg) daily in divided doses.
• Children: The dosage is 3 ml/kg or 6 mg/kg body weight daily in divided doses (using the syrup formulation).

Contraindications:

Norvis 50 should not be used in patients with:

• Urethroprostatic disorders involving a risk of urine retention.
• Risk of angle-closure glaucoma.

Side Effects:

The side effects of Tiemonium Methylsulphate are usually rare. Some individuals may experience:

• Hypotension (low blood pressure)
• Tachycardia (fast heart rate)

Pregnancy and Lactation:

Animal studies have not revealed any teratogenic effects. However, due to a lack of sufficient data in humans, caution should be exercised in pregnant women. For nursing mothers, prudence should also be exercised, although no problems have been reported with normal use.

Precautions and Warnings:

• Caution should be taken in patients with prostate disorders.
• Caution is also advised in cases of chronic bronchitis, coronary insufficiency, ambient hyperthermia, and renal or hepatic insufficiency.
• The risk of visual disturbances can make it dangerous to drive or use machines.
