Normalin 250ml IV

Presentation: Normalin 250ml IV is a sterile intravenous infusion containing 0.9% Sodium Chloride BP (9 grams of sodium chloride per 1000 ml of water for injection). It is available in a 250ml intravenous fluid bag, typically made of plastic. Marketed by Popular Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Normalin (0.9% Sodium Chloride Intravenous Infusion) is indicated for:

• Extracellular fluid replacement.
• Treatment of metabolic alkalosis in the presence of fluid loss.
• Mild sodium depletion.
• As a priming solution in hemodialysis procedures.
• For initiating and terminating blood transfusions without hemolyzing red blood cells.
• As a pharmaceutical aid and diluent for compatible drug additives.

Dosage and Administration: This solution is for intravenous use only. Dosage is to be directed by a registered medical practitioner and is dependent upon the patient's age, weight, clinical condition, and laboratory determinations. Frequent laboratory monitoring of electrolytes and fluid balance is essential during prolonged therapy. The infusion rate will be determined by the physician.

Side Effects: Reactions that may occur due to the solution or administration technique include fever, infection at the injection site, venous thrombosis or phlebitis extending from the injection site, extravasation, and hypervolemia. Symptoms may also result from an excess or deficit of ions in the solution; therefore, electrolyte levels should be frequently monitored. Hypernatremia may lead to edema and exacerbation of congestive heart failure.

Precautions: This solution is contraindicated where the administration of sodium or chloride could be clinically detrimental. Caution should be exercised in patients with congestive heart failure, edema with sodium retention, hypernatremia, hyperchloremia, and severe renal impairment. Special care should be taken in pediatric and geriatric patients. The compatibility of any additive medication with Normalin 0.9% IV should be assessed before use, and aseptic techniques should be followed during administration.

Storage: Store the intravenous fluid bag according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually at room temperature. Do not use if the solution is cloudy, contains particulate matter, or if the container is damaged. Keep out of reach of children.
