Ingredients: Calcium Carbonate BP equivalent to 500 mg elemental Calcium.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of calcium deficiency in conditions such as hypoparathyroidism, chronic diarrhea, Vitamin D deficiency, pregnancy and lactation, menopause, pancreatitis, renal failure, and alkalosis. Also used to treat hyperphosphataemia in chronic renal failure and may provide short-term relief of dyspeptic symptoms.

Dosage & Administration: As a dietary supplement, the usual adult dose is 500-1500 mg elemental Calcium daily, tailored to individual needs. In pregnancy and lactation, the recommended daily intake is 1200-1500 mg. As an antacid, the adult dose is equivalent to 540-2000 mg Calcium Carbonate per day. For hyperphosphataemia in chronic renal failure, doses range from 2.5-9.0 gm Calcium Carbonate per day, taken with meals.

Side Effects: May cause gastrointestinal irritation and constipation. Hypercalcaemia is rare with calcium alone but can occur in patients with chronic renal failure on high doses.

Precautions: Contraindicated in hypercalcaemia, hyperparathyroidism, hypercalciuria, nephrolithiasis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Use cautiously in patients with sarcoidosis, renal or cardiac disease, and in those taking cardiac glycosides (e.g., digoxin). May interfere with the absorption of tetracycline preparations.
