Naviscon 

Presentation: Naviscon Suspension is an off-white to cream viscous oral suspension. Each 10 ml typically contains Sodium Alginate BP 500 mg, Sodium Bicarbonate BP 267 mg, and Calcium Carbonate USP 160 mg. Naviscon is a product of Navana Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh and is usually available in 200 ml bottles, often with a peppermint or aniseed flavour.

Indications: Naviscon is indicated for the symptomatic relief of gastro-oesophageal reflux symptoms, including:

• Heartburn
• Acid regurgitation
• Indigestion
• Flatulence associated with gastric reflux
• Heartburn during pregnancy
• Epigastric and retrosternal distress where gastric reflux is the underlying cause.

It works by neutralizing stomach acid and forming a protective layer on top of the stomach contents, preventing acid from flowing back into the oesophagus.

Dosage and Administration: Naviscon Suspension is for oral administration. Shake the bottle well before each use.

• Adults and children over 12 years:10-20 ml after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day.  
• Children 6 to 12 years:5-10 ml after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day.  
• Children under 6 years:Not recommended.  
• Elderly:No dose modificationsare usually necessary.

It is advisable to take Naviscon at least 2 hours before or after taking other medications.

Side Effects: Naviscon is generally well-tolerated. However, some people may experience:

• Constipation
• Flatulence
• Stomach cramps
• Belching

In rare cases, allergic reactions such as skin rash or difficulty breathing may occur. If you experience any unusual symptoms, discontinue use and consult a doctor.

Precautions: Naviscon is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients or excipients.

Caution should be exercised in patients with:

• Severely restricted salt diets, as Naviscon contains sodium.
• Hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis (calcium deposits in the kidneys), or recurrent calcium-containing kidney stones, due to the calcium carbonate content.
• Phenylketonuria (in formulations containing aspartame).

If symptoms persist for more than 7 days, medical advice should be sought.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Naviscon is generally considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding because its action is mainly physical and systemic absorption is minimal. However, it is always recommended to consult a healthcare professional before using any medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Storage: Store below 30°C. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
