Minium 10 Tabletcontains Flunarizine 10mg.  

Indications: Minium 10 is used for:

  • Prophylaxis of classic (with aura) or common (without aura) migraine headaches.  
  • Symptomatic treatment of vestibular vertigo (due to a diagnosed functional disorder of the vestibular system).  
  • Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD).  
  • Motion sickness.  
  • Refractory epilepsy resistant to conventional antiepileptic therapy (as add-on therapy). 

Dosage and Administration:

  • Migraine Prophylaxis:
    • Starting dose for patients under 65 years: 10 mg at night.
    • Starting dose for patients over 65 years: 5 mg daily at night.
    • If depressive, extrapyramidal or other unacceptable symptoms occur, discontinue treatment.
    • If no significant improvement is observed after 2 months of initial treatment, discontinue treatment.
    • Maintenance treatment (if responding well): Reduce dose to 5 days of treatment at the same daily dose with two successive medicine-free days every week.
    • Even if prophylactic maintenance is successful and well-tolerated, interrupt after 6 months and re-initiate only if relapse occurs.
  • Peripheral Vascular Disease:10 mg twice daily, up to 30 mg per day if required.  

Vertigo & Motion Sickness:10-20 mg daily for adults and 5 mg daily for children (> 40 kg).  

Epileptic Seizure(as add-on therapy): 15-20 mg daily in adults and 5 to 10 mg daily for children. 

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

  • Drowsiness and/or fatigue.
  • Weight gain and/or increased appetite.  

Less common side effects may include:

  • Depression (female patients with a history of depressive illness may be particularly at risk).
  • Extrapyramidal symptoms (such as bradykinesia, rigidity, akathisia, orofacial dyskinesia, tremor), of which elderly patients appear to be more at risk. 
  • Heartburn.  
  • Nausea.  
  • Gastralgia (stomach pain).  
  • Insomnia.  
  • Anxiety.  
  • Galactorrhea (abnormal milk flow).Dry mouth.  
  • Muscle ache.Skin rash.  

Contraindications: Minium 10 is contraindicated in patients with:

  • Hypersensitivity to flunarizine.  
  • A history of depressive illness.
  • Pre-existing symptoms of Parkinson's disease or other extrapyramidal disorders.  

Precautions:

  • Flunarizine may cause drowsiness, which can be aggravated by alcohol or other CNS depressants. Patients should be cautioned against driving or operating machinery. 
  • Minium 10 is not suitable for treating an acute migraine attack.
  • This treatment may give rise to extrapyramidal and depressive symptoms and reveal Parkinsonism, especially in predisposed patients such as the elderly.  
  • Use with caution in patients with epilepsy, cardiovascular disease, and glaucoma.

Drug Interactions:

  • Galactorrhea has been reported in women on oral contraceptives within the first two months of flunarizine treatment.
  • Hepatic enzyme inducers such as Carbamazepine and Phenytoin may increase the metabolism of flunarizine, potentially requiring a dosage increase. 
  • Concomitant use of a calcium channel blocker and amiodarone has been reported to result in sinus arrest and atrioventricular block.  
  • Excessive sedation can occur when alcohol, hypnotics, or tranquilizers are taken. 

Storage:Keep below 30°C temperature, away from light & moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
