Milium 10 

Presentation: Each tablet of Milium 10 contains Domperidone Maleate BP equivalent to Domperidone 10 mg. Milium 10 is a product marketed by Everest Pharmaceuticals Ltd.in Bangladesh and is usually available in blister packs. The tablets are typically white and round.

Indications:Milium (Domperidone) is indicated for the symptomatic relief of nausea and vomiting.It is also used for the management of upper gastrointestinal motility disorders such as:

  • Epigastric sense of fullness  
  • Abdominal distension  
  • Upper abdominal pain  
  • Eructation, flatulence, early satiety  
  • Nausea and vomiting  
  • Heartburn with or without regurgitationof gastric contents

It can also be used to counteract the nausea and vomiting induced by dopamine agonists used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Additionally, it may be used to speed up barium transit in follow-through radiological examinations.

Dosage and Administration: Milium 10 tablets should be taken orally, preferably 15 to 30 minutes before meals and, if necessary, before retiring.

  • Adults and adolescents (12 years and older weighing 35 kg or more): The usual dose is one 10 mg tablet up to three times per day. The maximum daily dose is 30 mg.  
  • Elderly: Same as for adults.
  • Children and adolescents (under 12 years or weighing less than 35 kg):Milium 10 mg tablet is unsuitable for use in children and adolescents weighing less than 35 kg due to the need for accurate dosing.Other formulations of domperidone, such as suspension or paediatric drops, may be more suitable. Consult a doctor for appropriate dosage based on weight.

The duration of treatment should be as short as possible and as directed by your doctor, especially for acute nausea and vomiting where the maximum treatment period is usually 12 weeks.

Side Effects: Common side effects of Milium (Domperidone) may include:

  • Dry mouth  
  • Diarrhoea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Headache  

Less common side effects can include:

  • Dizziness  
  • Drowsiness
  • Anxiety  
  • Breast tenderness or enlargement (galactorrhoea in rare cases)  
  • Skin rash or itching  

Rare but potentially serious side effects include irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias). If you experience any significant or persistent side effects, especially palpitations or fainting, consult your doctor immediately.

Precautions: Milium (Domperidone) is contraindicated in patients with:

  • Known hypersensitivity to domperidone or any of the excipients.  
  • Pituitary gland tumour (prolactinoma).
  • Severe liver disease.
  • Certain heart conditions or electrolyte imbalances that can increase the risk of heart rhythm disorders.  
  • Gastrointestinal haemorrhage, obstruction, or perforation.
  • Use in neonates.

Caution should be exercised in patients with kidney problems and in the elderly. Domperidone can interact with several other medications.Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are currently taking.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Milium is not recommended during pregnancy unless the potential benefit justifies the potential risk. Domperidone passes into breast milk and may affect the newborn. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with Milium. Consult your doctor for advice.

Storage:Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.Keep out of reach of children.
