Mederma (Scars) Gel is an emollient and combined topical preparation composed of Cepalin and Allantoin, manufactured by MERZ Pharma GmbH and Co. and marketed by Mundipharma (BD) Pvt. Ltd. It is available in a 20 gm pack size.
It is indicated for the relief of dry skin associated with contact dermatitis, senile pruritus, atopic dermatitis, ichthyosis, and related dry skin conditions. The preparation softens and hydrates the skin, acting as a mild cleanser for dry and sensitive skin. It reduces dryness, leaving the skin feeling soft and smooth.
Scar gels work by reducing tension on the scar tissue through multiple actions. They provide essential moisture to soften the upper layer of the skin and create a protective barrier to retain this hydration. Additionally, the active ingredients assist cells in regenerating and remodeling the connective tissue below the scar, while offering protection against potential photodamage to sensitive skin.
Mederma Gel should be evenly applied and gently rubbed into the scar 3 times daily for 8 weeks on new scars, and 3 times daily for 3 to 6 months on existing scars. It should also be applied to the scar prior to sun exposure. For children under 6 months of age, consult a physician before application. Always use according to the advice of a registered physician.
There are no known or well-documented drug interactions associated with this topical gel.
This product is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of its components, as well as in individuals with acne or excessively greasy skin.
Skin irritation may occur in individuals who are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients present in the formulation.
Pregnancy Category C. Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus, and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans. However, potential benefits may warrant the use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
For external use only. Keep out of eyes during application, and rinse thoroughly with water if contact occurs. Stop use and consult a doctor if a rash or persistent irritation develops. Do not apply directly onto open wounds.
