Lotil 40 Tablet

Presentation: Lotil 40 is available as film-coated tablets, each containing Losartan Potassium BP 40 mg. It is a product of Renata Limited in Bangladesh and is usually available in blister packs. The tablets are typically white to off-white, oval-shaped, and film-coated.

Indications: Lotil (Losartan Potassium) is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) indicated for the treatment of:

• Hypertension (high blood pressure) 
• Reduction of the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy 
• Treatment of diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes andproteinuria

Dosage and Administration: Lotil 40 tablets should be swallowed whole with water and can be taken with or without food. The dosage is individualized based on the patient's condition and response.

• Hypertension: The usual starting dose is 50 mg once daily. The dose may be increased to 100 mg once daily or divided into two daily doses. A lower starting dose of 25 mg once daily may be considered in patients with possible depletion of intravascular volume (e.g., patients treated with diuretics) and in patients with hepatic impairment.
• Stroke Risk Reduction: The usual dose is 50 mg once daily, which may be increased to 100 mg once daily.
• Diabetic Nephropathy: The usual dose is 50 mg once daily, which may be increased to 100 mg once daily.

The dose may be adjusted by the physician based on blood pressure response.

Side Effects: Common side effects of Lotil (Losartan Potassium) may include:

• Dizziness
• Headache
• Fatigue
• Hypotension (low blood pressure)
• Hyperkalaemia (high potassium levels)
• Renal impairment

Less common side effects may include:

• Insomnia
• Muscle cramps
• Nausea
• Diarrhoea
• Angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat)
• Rash
• Pruritus (itching)

Rare side effects may include hepatic dysfunction and anaphylactic reactions.

Precautions: Lotil (Losartan Potassium) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to losartan or any other component of the formulation. It is also contraindicated in pregnant women (second and third trimesters).

Caution should be exercised in patients with:

• Renal artery stenosis (narrowing of the arteries to the kidneys)
• Impaired renal function
• Impaired hepatic function
• Volume depletion (e.g., due to diuretic therapy, salt restriction, diarrhoea, or vomiting)
• Heart failure

Serum potassium levels should be monitored, especially in patients with renal impairment and those taking potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Use of drugs that act directly on the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy and is contraindicated during the second and third trimesters.If pregnancy is detected, Lotil should be discontinued as soon as possible. It is not known whether losartan is excreted in human milk. Because of the potential for adverse effects on the nursing infant, a decision shouldbe made whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
