Leroid 50

Presentation:Each tablet of Leroid 50 contains 50 mcg of levothyroxine sodium.

Indications:Leroid (levothyroxine sodium) is a synthetic thyroid hormone indicated as replacement therapy in hypothyroidism (deficiency of thyroid hormone) of any etiology.It is also used for the suppression of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels in the presence of goiters, nodules, and after the treatment of thyroid cancer. Additionally, it can be used to suppress the goitrogenic effects of certain drugs.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Leroid is highly individualized and depends on the patient's age, weight, cardiovascular status, the specific condition being treated, and the results of thyroid function tests.

• Adults: The usual starting dose is 25-50 mcg per day, with gradual increases at 6-8 week intervals as needed. The dose is typically adjusted by 12.5-25 mcg increments until the patient is clinically euthyroid and TSH levels are normalized.
• Elderly patients or those with cardiac disease: A lower initial dose (e.g., 12.5-25 mcg/day) with slower titration is recommended.
• Leroid tablets should be taken orally once daily, preferably on an empty stomach, at the same time each day.

Side Effects: Side effects of Leroid are usually associated with hyperthyroidism due to excessive dosage. These may include palpitations, rapid heart rate, nervousness, irritability, tremors, increased sweating, heat intolerance, weight loss, increased appetite, diarrhea, and menstrual irregularities.

Precautions:Leroid is contraindicated in patients with uncorrected adrenal insufficiency and known hypersensitivity to levothyroxine or any of its excipients.It is not effective for weight reduction in euthyroid individuals. Caution should be exercised in patients with cardiovascular disorders, and therapy should be initiated at a lower dose with careful monitoring. Over-treatment or under-treatment with levothyroxine can have adverse effects.  

Storage:Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light.Keep out of reach of children.
