Lactoben 200ml 

Presentation:Lactoben, available in Bangladesh, is an oral solution containing Lactuloseat a concentration of 3.35 grams per 5 ml.It is supplied in a 200 ml bottle.  

Indications: Lactoben (Lactulose) oral solution is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Constipation:To relieve constipation by softening stools and facilitating bowel movements.It is also used to maintain regularity.
  • Hepatic Encephalopathy:To reduce the levels of ammonia in the blood in patients with liver disease, helping to improve mental function.  

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Lactoben oral solution should be administered orally as directed by a physician, based on the patient's individual needs and the condition being treated.

  • For Constipation:

    • Adults (including the elderly): The usual starting dose is 15 ml twice daily. This may be adjusted to a maintenance dose of 15-30 ml once daily.
    • Children (5-17 years): The usual starting dose is 10 ml twice daily.
    • Children (1-4 years): The usual starting dose is 5-10 ml twice daily.
    • Infants under 1 year: Up to 5 ml daily in divided doses.
  • For Hepatic Encephalopathy: The dosage is individualized, typically starting with 30-50 ml three times daily, and adjusted to produce 2-3 soft bowel movements per day.

Lactoben solution can be taken directly or mixed with water or fruit juice. It is often recommended to take it at the same time(s) each day. Allow at least 2 hours between taking Lactoben and other medications.

Side Effects:Common initial side effects of Lactoben (Lactulose) may include flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and cramps.These are usually transient and tend to decrease with continued use or dose adjustment. High doses can lead to diarrhea and potential electrolyte imbalance. Nausea and vomiting may also occur.

Precautions: Lactoben (Lactulose) should be used with caution in patients with:

  • Galactosemia, a rare genetic disorder.
  • Diabetes mellitus, as high doses used for hepatic encephalopathy can affect blood glucose levels.
  • Lactose intolerance, although the amount of lactose in standard doses is usually not significant.
  • Suspected intestinal obstruction or other gastrointestinal disorders.

Inform your doctor if you have any pre-existing medical conditions or are taking any other medications, including other laxatives or antacids.

Storage:Store Lactoben oral solution below 25°C.Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
