Presentation: Each modified-release tablet contains Gliclazide in varying strengths (e.g., 30 mg, 60 mg). Refer to the product packaging for the specific strength. Available in strips.
Indications: Indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and weight loss alone are not adequate to control blood sugar levels.
Dosage and Administration: The usual initial dose is 30 mg or 40-80 mg once daily, taken orally with breakfast. The dose may be adjusted gradually based on blood glucose levels, usually at intervals of 1-2 weeks, up to a maximum of 120 mg or 320 mg daily, respectively. Higher doses may be divided and taken twice daily. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew or crush. Follow the physician's instructions carefully.
Side Effects: The most common side effect is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Other possible side effects include weight gain, headache, nausea, dizziness, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Skin reactions such as rash, itching, and hives may also occur.
Precautions: Contraindicated in type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney or liver disease, and hypersensitivity to sulfonylureas. Use with caution in patients with risk factors for hypoglycemia, such as elderly patients, malnourished individuals, or those with impaired adrenal or pituitary function. Alcohol consumption should be avoided. Certain medications can interact with Gliclazide, potentially increasing or decreasing its blood sugar-lowering effect. Inform your doctor of all medications you are taking. Regular blood glucose monitoring is essential.
Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
