Glucozid MR 60

Presentation:Each modified-release tablet contains 60 mg of gliclazide. The tablets are typically white to off-white, oblong or round, and may be scored. They are available in blister packs.

Indications:Glucozid MR (gliclazide) is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and weight loss alone are not adequate to control blood glucose levels. It works by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose is 30 mg once daily. The dose may be increased gradually in increments of 30 mg, based on blood glucose response, to a maximum of 120 mg once daily. It should be taken orally once daily at breakfast. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed. The physician will determine the appropriate dose based on individual needs and regular blood glucose monitoring.

Side Effects: The most common side effect is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Symptoms can include sweating, tremor, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, confusion, and hunger. Other possible side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. Skin reactions like rash and itching may also occur. Less common but serious side effects may include liver problems and blood disorders.

Precautions: Glucozid MR is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal or hepatic impairment, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Caution should be exercised in elderly patients, those with impaired renal or hepatic function, and in situations where hypoglycemia is more likely (e.g., strenuous exercise, alcohol consumption, inadequate food intake). Regular blood glucose monitoring is essential. Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as they may interact with gliclazide, increasing the risk of hypoglycemia or affecting blood glucose control.

Storage:Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light.Keep out of reach of children.
