Glucostat 80

Presentation:Each tablet contains 80 mg of gliclazide.The tablets are typically white and round, usually film-coated. They are available in blister packs or bottles.

Indications:Glucostat (gliclazide) is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and weight loss alone are not adequate to control blood glucose levels.  

Dosage and Administration:The usual initial dose is 40 to 80 mg once daily.The dose may be increased gradually, based on blood glucose response, up to a maximum of 320 mg daily, which may be taken as a single dose or in divided doses with meals. It is recommended to take Glucostat before meals. The physician will determine the appropriate dose based on individual needs and blood glucose monitoring.

Side Effects: The most common side effect is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Symptoms can include sweating, tremor, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, and confusion. Other possible side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. Skin reactions like rash and itching may also occur.

Precautions: Glucostat is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal or hepatic impairment, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Caution should be exercised in elderly patients, those with impaired renal or hepatic function, and in situations where hypoglycemia is more likely (e.g., strenuous exercise, alcohol consumption, inadequate food intake). Regular blood glucose monitoring is essential. Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as they may interact with gliclazide.
