Glizid 30 MR
Presentation:
Glizid 30 MR is available as modified-release tablets containing 30 mg of gliclazide for oral administration. The tablets are designed to release the active ingredient gradually, providing sustained glycemic control. The specific appearance and packaging details will be mentioned on the product pack.
Indications:
Glizid 30 MR is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone have not been adequate to achieve satisfactory glycemic control. It may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or insulin.
Dosage and Administration:
The usual starting dose is 30 mg once daily, which may be adjusted based on the patient's blood glucose response. The dosage can be increased gradually, usually at intervals of at least 2 weeks, to a maximum of 120 mg once daily. Glizid 30 MR should be taken orally once daily, preferably with breakfast. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed. The dosage should be determined and adjusted by a healthcare professional according to individual patient needs and blood glucose monitoring.
Side Effects:
The most common side effect associated with gliclazide is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which can occur especially if meals are skipped, during strenuous exercise, or when used in combination with other hypoglycemic agents.Symptoms of hypoglycemia may include sweating, paleness, tremor, anxiety, unusual tiredness or weakness, confusion, difficulty concentrating, hunger, and visual disturbances.
Other possible side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain.Skin reactions like rash, itching, and urticaria may also occur.Less frequently, changes in blood counts and liver function tests have been reported.
Precautions:
Before taking Glizid 30 MR, inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially kidney or liver problems, and any allergies. Caution should be exercised in elderly patients and those with malnutrition or irregular eating habits, as they may be more susceptible to hypoglycemia.
Glizid 30 MR is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal or hepatic insufficiency. It is generally not recommended for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, andherbal supplements, as they may interact with gliclazide, affecting blood glucose control or increasing the risk of side effects. Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is essential during treatment.
Storage:
Store Glizid 30 MR tablets below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture.Keep the medication out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date mentioned on the packaging.
