Glimicron 80 

Presentation: Glimicron 80 Tablet, available in Bangladesh, contains Gliclazide 80 mg. It is presented as an oral tablet, usually uncoated, and is typically available in blister packs. The color and shape of the tablet may vary depending on the manufacturer.

Indications:Glimicron is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitusin adults when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone are not adequate to achieve glycemic control.It can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or insulin.

Dosage and Administration:The dosage of Glimicron must be individualized based on the patient's blood glucose levels.The usual initial dose is 40-80 mg once daily, taken shortly before or with the first main meal of the day (usually breakfast).

• Dosage adjustments are made gradually based on blood glucose response.The dose may be increased in increments of 40-80 mg at intervals of 1-2 weeks.
• The usual maintenance dose ranges from 80 to 240 mg once daily. In some cases, higher doses up to a maximum of 320 mg daily may be required, which can be given in divided doses.
• If a dose is missed, it should not be taken later in the day. The next dose should be taken at the usual time the following day.
• It is important to have regular meals after taking this medication to minimize the risk of hypoglycemia.  

Side Effects: The most common side effect is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Symptoms can include headache, dizziness, sweating, weakness, increased hunger, tremor, anxiety, confusion, palpitations, and in severe cases, loss of consciousness or seizures. Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal discomfort may occur.Less common side effects include allergic skin reactions (rash, itching, urticaria), blurred vision, and changes in liver function tests. In rare cases, blood disorders such as thrombocytopenia and leukopenia may occur. Weight gain may also occur in some individuals.  

Precautions: Glimicron is contraindicated in patients with:

• Known hypersensitivity to gliclazide or other sulfonylureas or sulfonamides.
• Type 1 diabetes mellitus.
• Diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic pre-coma and coma.
• Severe renal or hepatic impairment.

It is generally not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.Caution should be exercised in patients with moderate renal or hepatic impairment, elderly or debilitated patients, and in conditions where blood glucose control may be unstable (e.g., intercurrent illness, surgery, stress). Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can increase the risk of hypoglycemia.Certain medications can interact with gliclazide, potentially affecting blood glucose control; therefore, it is important to inform the doctor about all other medications being taken.Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is essential.

Storage:Store Glimicron 80 tablets in a cool (below 30°C) and dry place, protected from light and moisture.Keep this medicine out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
