Gavisus DX Suspension

Presentation: Gavisus DX is available as a white to off-white viscous oral suspension. It is typically available in a 200 ml bottle, often with a measuring cup. Each 10 ml of the suspension contains Sodium Alginate BP 500 mg, Sodium Bicarbonate BP 213 mg, and Calcium Carbonate BP 325 mg. Gavisus DX is a product of The ACME Laboratories Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Gavisus DX is indicated for the symptomatic relief of gastro-oesophageal reflux, which can cause:

• Gastric reflux 
• Heartburn 
• Indigestion 
• Flatulence associated with gastric reflux 
• Heartburn of pregnancy 
• All cases of epigastric and retrosternal distresswhere the underlying cause is gastric reflux. 

Dosageand Administration: Gavisus DX Suspension is for oral administration. Shake the bottle well before use.

• Adults and children over 12 years:10-20 ml after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day. 
• Children 6 to 12 years:5-10 ml after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day. 
• Children under 6 years:Not recommended. 
• Elderly:No dosage modificationsare usually necessary.

A time interval of 2 hours should be considered between the intake of Gavisus DX and other medicinal products, especially certain antibiotics (tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones), digoxin, iron salts, ketoconazole, neuroleptics, thyroid hormones, penicillamine, beta-blockers, and glucocorticoids.

Side Effects: In addition to the desired effect, some side effects may occur, such as:

• Constipation
• Flatulence
• Stomach cramp
• Belching

Rarely, allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, difficulty breathing, dizziness, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat may occur.

Precautions: Gavisus DX is contraindicated in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or any of the excipients.

Caution should be taken in patients with:

• A highly restricted salt diet, as each 20 ml dose contains a significant amount of sodium (approximately 254.5 mg).
• Hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis (calcium deposits in the kidneys), and recurrent calcium-containing kidney stones, due to the calcium carbonate content. Each 20 ml contains 260 mg of calcium.

If symptoms do not improve after 7 days, the clinical situation should be reviewed.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Gavisus DX can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if clinically needed, as clinical studies and post-marketing experience have not indicated any malformative or feto/neonatal toxicity.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
