Gavipres 

Presentation: Gavipres Oral Suspension, available in Bangladesh, is presented as a liquid suspension. Each 10 ml typically contains Sodium Alginate 500 mg, Sodium Bicarbonate 267 mg, and Calcium Carbonate 160 mg. It is usually available in 200 ml bottles.

Indications: Gavipres is indicated for the symptomatic relief of:

• Gastric reflux  
• Heartburn  
• Indigestion  
• Flatulence associated with gastric reflux  
• Heartburn of pregnancy  
• All cases of epigastric and retrosternal distresswhere the underlying cause is gastric reflux.  

Dosage and Administration: Gavipres is for oral administration and should be taken after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day.

• Adults and children over 12 years: 10-20 ml.
• Children 6 to 12 years: 5-10 ml.
• Children under 6 years: Not recommended.
• Elderly: No dose modifications necessary.

A time interval of 2 hours should be considered between the intake of Gavipres and other medicinal products, especially tetracyclines, digoxin, fluoroquinolones, iron salts, ketoconazole, neuroleptics, thyroid hormones, penicillamine, beta-blockers (atenolol, metoprolol, propanolol),and glucocorticoids.

Side Effects: In addition to the desired effect, some side effects may occur, such as:

• Constipation
• Flatulence
• Stomach cramps
• Belching

In case of a large overdose, a sensation of swelling may occur.

Precautions: Gavipres is contraindicated in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or any of the excipients.

Caution should be taken in patients with:

• A highly restricted salt diet (each 10 ml dose contains a significant amount of sodium; check the specific product information).
• Hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis, and recurrent calcium-containing renal calculi (each 10 ml dose contains calcium carbonate).
• Phenylketonuria (due to aspartame content in some formulations; check the specific product information).

If symptoms do not improve after seven days, the clinical situation should be reviewed.

Use in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Clinical studies in pregnant women and post-marketing experience indicate no malformative nor feto/neonatal toxicity of the active ingredients. Gavipres can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if clinically needed.

Storage: Store in a cool (below 30°C) and dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not refrigerate or freeze unless specifically instructed on the packaging.
