Gaviplus 

Presentation: Gaviplus is typically available as a liquid oral suspension in a 200 ml bottle. Each 10 ml of the suspension contains Sodium Alginate USP 500 mg, Sodium Bicarbonate USP 267 mg, and Calcium Carbonate BP 160 mg. It is a product of Team Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Gaviplus is indicated for the symptomatic relief of gastro-oesophageal reflux, which can cause:

• Heartburn
• Acid regurgitation
• Indigestion
• Flatulence associated with gastric reflux
• Heartburn during pregnancy
• Epigastric and retrosternal distress where the underlying cause is gastric reflux.

It works by reacting with stomach acid to form a protective layer (raft) that floats on the stomach contents, helping to prevent acid from flowing back into the oesophagus.

Dosage and Administration: Gaviplus Suspension is for oral administration. Shake the bottle well before use.

• Adults and children over 12 years:10-20 ml after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day.  
• Children 6 to 12 years:5-10 ml after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day.  
• Children under 6 years:Not recommended.  
• Elderly:No dosage modificationis usually required.

A time interval of 2 hours should be considered between the intake of Gaviplus and other medicinal products, especially certain antibiotics (tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones), digoxin, iron salts, ketoconazole, neuroleptics, thyroid hormones, penicillamine, and beta-blockers.

Side Effects: Gaviplus is generally well-tolerated. However, some people may experience:

• Constipation
• Flatulence
• Stomach cramps
• Belching

Rarely, allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching, difficulty breathing, dizziness, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat may occur. If any unusual symptoms develop, discontinue use and consult a physician.

Precautions: Gaviplus is contraindicated in patients with known or suspected hypersensitivity to the active ingredients or any of the excipients.

Caution should be taken in patients with:

• A highly restricted salt diet, as Gaviplus contains sodium. Each 10 ml dose contains 141 mg (6.2 mmol) of sodium.
• Hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis (calcium deposits in the kidneys), and recurrent calcium-containing kidney stones, due to the calcium carbonate content. Each 10 ml dose contains 160 mg (1.6 mmol) of calcium carbonate.

If symptoms do not improve after 7 days, the clinical situation should be reviewed.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Gaviplus can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if clinically needed, as clinical studies and post-marketing experience have not indicated any malformative or feto/neonatal toxicity.

Storage: Store in a dry and cool place below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Do not refrigerate. Keep out of reach of children.
