Indications

This combination cream/ointment, containing Miconazole and Hydrocortisone, is used for the topical treatment of inflamed skin conditions where both bacterial/fungal infection and inflammation are present. This includes:

• Intertrigo and infected eczema.
• Moist or dry eczema and dermatitis, such as atopic, irritant, contact allergic, or seborrheic eczema.
• Inflammatory intertrigo, perianal, and genital dermatitis.
• It is effective against dermatophytes, pathogenic yeasts (e.g., Candida), and many Gram-positive bacteria (e.g., Streptococcus and Staphylococcus).

Pharmacology

• Miconazole: An imidazole antifungal agent that works by interfering with the synthesis of ergosterol, a key component of fungal cell membranes. This alters the membrane's permeability and leads to the death of the fungi. It is also effective against some bacteria.
• Hydrocortisone: A synthetic glucocorticoid that has anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic (anti-itch), and vasoconstrictive (narrows blood vessels) properties. It works by preventing the release of chemicals in the skin that cause inflammation.

Dosage & Administration

Apply a thin film to the affected area two to four times daily for one to two weeks. Rub the cream in well until it is fully absorbed. Treatment should be continued for at least one week after all signs and symptoms have disappeared. This dosage applies to both adults and children.

Interaction

Amphotericin is known to antagonize (work against) the activity of Miconazole.

Contraindications

This product is contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to any of its components. It should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding mothers without a physician's advice.

Side Effects

Local sensitivity reactions may occur rarely. Long-term use may lead to a decrease in the natural production of hormones by the adrenal glands.

Pregnancy & Lactation

High doses of corticosteroids administered to pregnant animals can cause fetal abnormalities. Therefore, topical steroids should not be used extensively during pregnancy. Consult with a doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

This medication should be dispensed only with a prescription from a registered physician. Caution should be taken, and a physician consulted, in the case of long-term use in children and elderly people. Keep out of the reach of children.
