Folzin

Presentation: Typically presented as tablets containing Folic Acid BP [Strength, e.g., 5 mg] and Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate USP equivalent to Elemental Zinc [Strength, e.g., 20 mg]. Available in blister packs containing strips of tablets, with the number of tablets per pack determined by Pacific Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Folzin is indicated for the treatment and prevention of Folic Acid and Zinc deficiencies. It is particularly useful during pregnancy and lactation, periods of rapid growth, malnutrition, malabsorption syndromes, and in conditions like hemolytic anemia. Zinc deficiency can lead to skin lesions, hair loss, diarrhea, increased susceptibility to infections, and cognitive impairment. Folic acid is crucial for DNA synthesis and red blood cell production, and its deficiency can cause megaloblastic anemia.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dosage is one tablet daily, orally, or as directed by a registered medical practitioner. It is often recommended to take it throughout the first trimester of pregnancy.

Side Effects: Folzin is generally well-tolerated at the recommended dose. Occasionally, gastrointestinal disturbances like abdominal pain, dyspepsia, nausea, and vomiting may occur. Allergic reactions are rare. Zinc supplementation may sometimes lead to fever and respiratory distress.

Precautions: Folzin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Zinc or Folic Acid, and in untreated cobalamin (Vitamin B12) deficiency. Large amounts of Calcium may decrease the absorption of Zinc, so concurrent use should be avoided. Special care should be taken in patients with Iron overload states.

Storage: Store at a temperature below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
