Fast Syrup - (120mg/5ml)

Presentation:Each 5 ml contains Paracetamol BP 120 mg. Available in bottles of 60 ml and 100 ml.

Indications: Fast Syrup is indicated for the relief of:

• Fever
• Mild to moderate pain such as headache, toothache, earache, body ache, muscle pain, neuralgia, dysmenorrhoea, sprains, colic pain, back pain, post-operative pain, postpartum pain, inflammatory pain, and post-vaccination pain in children. 
• It is also used for rheumatic and osteoarthritic pain and stiffness of joints.  

Dosage and Administration: Dosage should be based on the child's weight. If weight is not known, use the age guidelines provided below. Doses may be repeated every 4 to 6 hours as needed, but not more than 4 times in 24 hours.

• Children under 3 months: 10 mg/kg body weight (reduce to 5 mg/kg if jaundiced) 3 to 4 times daily (on doctor's advice only).
• Children 3 months to below 1 year: ½ to 1 teaspoonful (60-120 mg) 3 to 4 times daily when necessary.
• Children 1-5 years: 1 -2 teaspoonfuls (120-250 mg) 3 to 4 times daily when necessary.
• Children 6-12 years: 2-4 teaspoonfuls (250-500 mg) 3 to 4 times daily when necessary. Use the provided measuring device or a marked teaspoon to ensure accurate dosing.

Pharmacology:Paracetamol exhibits analgesic action by peripheral blockage of pain impulse generation.It produces antipyresis by inhibiting the hypothalamic heat-regulating center.Unlike NSAIDs, acetaminophen does not inhibit cyclooxygenase in peripheral tissues and, thus, has no peripheral anti-inflammatoryeffects. 

Side Effects: Side effects of Fast are usually mild and infrequent when taken at recommended doses. Rare side effects may include haematological reactions including thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, pancytopenia, neutropenia, and agranulocytosis. Liver damage may occur following overdose. 

Precautions:Care is advised in the administration of Fast to patients with severe renal or severe hepatic impairment. The hazard of overdose is greater in those with non-cirrhotic alcoholic liver disease. Do not exceed the stated dose. Fast should be used with caution in patients with chronic alcoholism, known G6PD deficiency, severe hypovolaemia, chronic malnutrition.

Pregnancy & Lactation: Paracetamol is safe in case of pregnancy and lactation.

Storage: Keep away from light and heat in a dry area. Keep out of children's reach. Store below 30°C.

Therapeutic Class: Analgesics that do not include opioids.
