Ertu 15

Presentation: Ertu 15 Tablet contains Ertugliflozin L-pyroglutamic acid INN equivalent to Ertugliflozin 15 mg. It is presented as a film-coated tablet for oral administration and is usually available in blister packs.

Indications: Ertu is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It can be used as monotherapyin patients for whom metformin is considered inappropriate due to intolerance or contraindications, or in addition to other medicinal products for the treatment of diabetes.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended starting dose of Ertu is 5 mg once daily, taken in the morning, with or without food. In patients tolerating Ertu 5 mg once daily and requiring additional glycemic control, the dose may be increased to a maximum recommended dose of 15 mg once daily.

Renal function should be assessed prior to initiation of Ertu and periodically thereafter. Ertu is contraindicated in patients with an eGFR less than 30 mL/minute/1.73 m². Initiation of Ertu is not recommended in patients with an eGFR of 30 to less than 60 mL/minute/1.73 m².

Side Effects: Common side effects may include female genital mycotic infections, volume depletion adverse effects, male genital mycotic infections, urinary tract infections, headache, and increased urination. Less common side effects may include dizziness and back pain. Ertugliflozin may also increase the risk of lower limb amputation.

Precautions: Ertu is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment, end-stage renal disease, or those on dialysis, as well as in patients with a history of serious hypersensitivity reaction to ertugliflozin.

Caution should be taken in patients with a history of urinary tract infections or genital infections. Ertu may cause intravascular volume contraction and symptomatic hypotension may occur. Ketoacidosis has been reported in patients taking SGLT2 inhibitors, including ertugliflozin. Consider factors that may predispose patients to ketoacidosis prior to initiating treatment.

Storage: Store Ertu 15 tablets below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
